Portfolio Manager

John Poulter was a founding partner of Cumberland Private Wealth Management Inc. (“Cumberland” or “CPWM”) and has been a Portfolio Manager at Cumberland Investment Counsel Inc. (“CIC”) since 2017.  Mr. Poulter specializes in the development and management of Cumberland’s quantitative investment strategies and quantitative research. He currently participates on the firm’s asset allocation committee and advises the firm’s investment team in optimized asset allocation. He is the Portfolio Manager of CPWM’s High Income, Alternative Income, US ETF, Multi-Strategy investment mandates and the Kipling Global Enhanced Growth Fund.

With over 30 years of experience in securities selection and portfolio design, John Poulter has held senior roles at Cumberland including that of Chief Investment Officer at CPWM (1997-2009). Prior to CPWM, he held various positions focusing on quantitative equity analysis and portfolio risk management at Connor, Clark and Company. In addition to CPWM and Connor Clark, Mr. Poulter worked at CIBC Wood Gundy in the research department as a quantitative analyst and on their proprietary trading desk. Privately, he founded PIQ Research, a commercial investment research analytics platform. Since then, the quantitative security selection and risk-based trading systems John has designed have been ported and programed into PIQ. 

John Poulter holds a B.A. in Economics from the University of British Columbia, where he focused on Financial Econometrics. He is a CFA® charterholder and a shareholder of Cumberland Partners Limited, CPWM and CIC’s parent company.
