Michael Isenberg recently joined Cumberland Private Wealth as a client Portfolio Manager, bringing two decades of financial services experience and investment management expertise.
A lawyer by training, Mr. Isenberg began his career in New York with Shearman & Sterling, LLP focusing on derivatives, structured finance and hedge fund law. Leveraging this background, he transitioned to Merrill Lynch working on M&A and corporate hybrid financing, and structured share buybacks.
Mr. Isenberg then moved into investing with Gluskin Sheff & Associates, having worked on the equity long / short product platform, co-managing a $1.5 billion hedge fund strategy. His primary focus was the global financial sector, which he successfully navigated through the 2007-2009 global financial crisis. He also advised on the firm’s global credit arbitrage funds, which deployed over $1 billion in capital.
Most recently, Mr. Isenberg was Principal, Portfolio Manager, and Head of Research at RP Investment Advisors, where he drove its fundamental credit focus, investing in the Canadian, European and U.S. credit markets, helping to generate positive investment returns.
Originally from New York, Mr. Isenberg earned his BSc (Hons) with honors from Cornell University, and graduated cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania Law School. As a leader in the philanthropic community, he has raised significant funds for the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, Mt. Sinai Hospital, the UHN Hospital Network, among other causes. He is also committed to coaching youth athletics in baseball, basketball, and hockey.
